Waka’s Dicey Post
As America struggles to deal with its inner turmoil, namely unequal justice, many celebrities have come out of the woodworks to share their opinion on the current climate. One such celebrity is Waka Flocka Flame who took to Instagram to weigh in on the subject. He said, “How can we as a community beg the police to don’t shoot but we killing each other still? We gotta ask ourselves how bad do we want true freedom?” This comes in the midst of multiple cases of police brutality in the past year, including those of George Floyd, Jacob Blake, Rayshard Brooks, and many more. This statement understandably received a lot of backlash from people all over the internet and caught the eye of Freshman rapper Chika.
Chika, an Alabama native, replied to Waka’s statement with pointed tweets and an Instagram post. “Everybody of every race commits violence against each other, it is not specific to our community. What IS specific to us is having these respectability politics used as a condition for us to receive simple human decency from people who swore to serve and protect.”
Chika went on to elaborate on her point, “In simple terms, nobody else has been asked to stop killing each other if they don’t wanna be killed. This is stupid. and would only come from someone who doesn’t have the range to understand double standards. Or umm… racism?”
But she did not stop there, “In simpler terms, shut the hell up, Flocka. [Thanks].” Chika posted a screenshot of the original tweet with the caption, “@wakaflocka — shhh. Not [right now].” The XXL Freshman’s Twitter is filled with her unfiltered message, but she has yet to receive a reply from Waka Flocka Flame regarding his statements made on his Instagram story.
