COVID-19 claims life of Griselda Dj
Legendary Hip-Hop producer DJ Shay passed away this weekend due to complications related to COVID-19. Shay, whose real name was Demetrius Robinson, was a legend on the Buffalo music scene. He is mostly known for his close affiliation to the Griselda team, more specifically, Conway, Benny the Butcher, and Westside Gunn. Shay was born into a musical family, his grandfather is COUNT RABBIT. COUNT was a blues guitarist and vocalist. He was accepted in the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 1996.
Shay started his music career at the young age of ten, after receiving turntables as a gift for Christmas. In an interview, Shay talked about his early days and being underage but still Dj’ing events. “They had me in the kitchen because I couldn’t be in the bar.” Shay met Benny the Butcher and Conway in the early 2000s and have been their main producer and DJ ever since. Shay said back then that he knew he had two of the best rappers in the world, with Benny and Conway. However, things didn’t pop off for them as soon as they would have liked. It would be almost 20 years before the Griselda team got the worldwide recognition they deserved.
Whats Next for Griselda
It is extremely sad to see Shay pass away just as the team was making its mark within the hip-hop culture. Griselda was set to dominate the month of August, but due to his passing the label is putting everything on hold right now. Westside Gun took to Instagram to thank the fans and keep them updated on the future ” First I wanna say thank u for All the love, support and prayers that has been giving, GRISELDA has the best fans in the world”. He would go on to update his fans on his project, “Just wanna be the first to let u know my album has been postponed, we’ll be figuring out a date soon and I’ll keep you posted”
Love and Light to Dj shay’s family, and the whole Griselda team.
